Planting Camellias

Make sure you choose the right location for your Camellia.  All plants grow more successfully in a location similar to their natural environment.  The camellia will thrive in semi-shade under pine trees where they are protected from wind and other elements.  The shade must not be too dense as that will reduce flowering.  Make sure your camellia has good drainage.  You do not want to plant them in a low place as the roots will tend to stay too wet and rot.  When you are ready to plant, make a hole larger than the root ball.  Mix in your organic matter.  Plant the camellia with the surface of the ball slightly higher than the surrounding ground.  This will help with drainage.  Firm the soil around the plant and fill the hole with water to remove air bubbles.  Keep the plant watered until it is established.  Hope this helps!  Come by the nursery to see our selection of camellias!
